On the afternoon of Wednesday, Nov. 7, at approximately 4:33 p.m., the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to the United Bank of Iowa located at 1270 North Lake Avenue in reference to an automated fire alarm.
Upon arrival of fire fighters they noted that smoke detectors in the duct work of the heating system had activated. Fire fighters determined that a soft drink pitcher had been spilled in the break area on the first floor causing liquid to leak into the basement above the furnaces. The liquid ran down the ducts and entered a smoke detector causing the alarm. There was no fire and no damage.
The fire department was on scene for approximately 15 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department.
Failure to appear in court
On the evening of Thursday, Nov. 8, at approximately 7:20 p.m., the Storm Lake Police Department responded to 318 West 8th Street in reference to locating a wanted person.
Upon arrival police located and arrested Manuel De La Garza, age 23 of Storm Lake, who was wanted on a warrant charging him with Failure to Appear in Court reference OWI. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $2,000 cash bond.
Violation of Probation
On the evening of Thursday, Nov. 8, at approximately 8:50 p.m., the Storm Lake Police Department responded to 804 East 1st Street in reference to locating a wanted person.
Upon arrival of police they located and arrested Martel Bolden, age 27 of Storm Lake who was wanted on a warrant charging him with Violation of Probation reference Public Intoxication 3rd Offense. He was booked into the county jail on a $2,000 cash bond.
Possession of Marijuana
On the afternoon of Thursday, Nov. 8, at approximately 4:23 p.m., a Storm Lake Police Officer stopped a vehicle in the 1400 block of North Seneca Street in reference to a traffic violation.
Upon contacting the occupants of the vehicle police allege they smelled the odor of burnt marijuana. Police identified the driver Tyler Armstrong, age 18 of Storm Lake, and the passenger was identified as Luiz Jimenez, age 16 of Storm Lake.
Police reportedly determined that both occupants were in possession of a small amount of marijuana.
Following an investigation police charged Armstrong with Possession of a Controlled Substance (serious misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor). He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $1,300 cash bond.
Police charged Jimenez with Possession of a Controlled Substance (serious misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor). He was processed and released to a parent pending a court date. His charges have been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.
On November 8, a burglary was reported at 510 E. 3rd in Storm Lake. The total value of the items reported missing was estimated at $90.
Between November 1 and November 5, two thefts were reported in Storm Lake. The total value of the items reported missing was estimated at $70.
