For the past two weeks, a senior medical student from Des Moines has been learning about podiatry care at a Storm Lake clinic.

While completing rotations in as wide of a field as possible, Todd Wical, Des Moines University, chose to learn at Randy Crampton's Foot and Ankle Clinic on West Railroad Street. As a 2009 Buena Vista University graduate, he appreciates the familiarity of Storm Lake.

"We don't talk about foot care much in medical school, so this is a great opportunity to learn it," Wical explained.

Although he is pursing a career in OB/GYN, the Wayne, Neb. native is broadening his medical knowledge during his last two years of school.

During his rotation, Wical has learned about surgery and the basics of podiatry.

"It has been an enjoyable experience---Dr. Crampton has excellent staff, and his patients are great," he said. "He provides the best care and surgery, and is willing to teach students by passing on his expertise. I appreciate the opportunity to learn under him."

Upon his graduation in 2013, the U.S. Army Officer will complete an OB/GYN residency, but plans to eventually open a practice in the Midwest with his fiancee Kim Chaffin.

Chaffin, a Milford native, is also pursuing OB/GYN training through the U.S. Army.
