Storm Lake Dental Clinic invited children to bring in their trick-or-treat candy after Halloween in return for a few dollars. Cavity-fighter Dr. Rick Martin has been doing the project for three years. So far, this time around he has collected 29.5 pounds of sugary treats. None of the children seemed to upset to give up their candy, including his own, he said. Not wanting to throw his take away, Martin has hooked up with the Storm Lake Armory to ship the candy - mixed up with travel sized tubes of toothpaste - to local military personnel still serving in Afghanistan. Martin is shown here with some of his windfall. / Pilot photo by Dana Larsen
