The 2012 Storm Lake CROP Hunger Walk Sunday, October 14th was a success! Around $3,000, with more donations expected, was contributed by our neighbors and friends to support hunger-fighting efforts both here at home and around the world.
Our local Food for Life program will receive 25% of the total donations to aid community members in need, and the remaining earnings will make possible work around the globe. CROP Hunger Walks are interfaith hunger education and fundraising events which have been occurring in many communities over the last 20 years. Storm Lakers can be proud to be a part of this large effort to improve lives here and around the world.
We are most grateful to local businesses for supporting the event with their generous donations: Fareway, Hy-Vee, Storm Lake Bakery, and Wal-Mart.
Thank you to all who worked so hard to make this year's CROP Hunger Walk such a resounding success. We would like to make a special thank you to the Student Association of Social Workers, Phi Alpha, and Moving in Stereo from BVU; United Methodist Church, St. Mark Lutheran Church, and Lakeside Presbyterian all of Storm Lake for their assistance in organizing, and to the Pilot Tribune for covering the event.
Volunteering, walking, donating - we all have shown that people of Storm Lake, Iowa are truly people of the world. Hope to see you next year at the CROP Hunger Walk!
