The Alta Kiwanis met Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Wel-Life.
Speaker was Kiwanis member Dick Anderson who spoke about his Alaskan fishing trips. Dick will be hosting the ninth trip during July 12-19 and/or July 24-31, 2013.
The trip includes roundtrip air from Minneapolis, seven nights' hotel stay - two nights in Anchorage, three nights Seward, and two nights on a charter boat - and fishing for halibut. salmon, ling cod, and rockfish. There is a five-fisherman limit per charter boat. Dick's brother who lives in Alaska flies a Cessna 180 and has a 65-foot boat. He explained about limits on fish caught each day. For king salmon, the limit is one per day or five total per trip. For halibut, the limit is two per day. His presentation also included a video featuring highlights from past fishing trips. Anyone wanting more information can get a hold of him at 321 Hwy 3 Alta.
The next pop can collection date is 7:15 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 2.
The group needs new board members to replace those who have quit. Members are still in the process of reviewing and revising their club project's list.
Four or five Kiwanis members needed to make pancakes for the Horizons fundraiser on Nov. 11.
Recruiting for new members is still going on. Currently there are 25 who have paid their dues for the upcoming year.
On Nov. 3, there will be a birthday party for Dick Anderson at 6 p.m. at West Links Golf Course in Alta.
