Gerhardt Gutz, age 92, of Storm Lake, died Friday, October 12, at his home in rural Storm Lake.
Gerhardt George Gutz was born February 10, 1920 in Storm Lake, the son of Theodore and Louise (Ripke) Gutz. On February 15, 1920, he was baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake where he was later confirmed on March 25, 1934. Gerhardt attended school through the eighth grade.
On April 27, 1941, Gerhardt was united in marriage to Lois Adelia Morse at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Together, they were blessed with two children, Bernie and Norlin.
Gerhardt was a member of Farm Bureau and a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Church, where he was an elder and chairman of the congregation. He also took part in Bible study as well.
In his spare time, Gerhardt enjoyed golf, reading, watching baseball, and Allis-Chalmer Tractors. His passion was his farm and farming. Gerhardt and Lois have lived in their present home for 69 years. He loved watching and attending activities of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered especially for his story telling. Gerhardt treasured his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 71 years, Lois Gutz of Storm Lake; son, Norlin (Becky) Gutz of Storm Lake; daughter-in-law, Mardel Gutz of Bellville, Ill.; grandchildren: Charlie (Jennifer) Gutz of Bellevue, Neb.; Sara (Mike) Groher of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Kayla (Al) Preto of Castro Valley, Calif.; Emily Gutz of Cedar Falls; Ryan Gutz of Storm Lake; Kelly (BJ) Habben of Sioux Rapids; Brandon (Heidi) Hout of O'Fallon, Ill.; Brian (Maribelle) Hout of Norfolk, Va.; Brenda (Jay) Zittler of Milton; great grandchildren: Elijah, Benjamin, and Matthias Gutz; Elise, Reid, and Adelia Groher; Adriana Preto; Daryn, Parker, Caden, and Shaylene Habben; sisters: Zelda Morse of Tucson, Arizona; Lenora Vogel of Murrieta, California; Julie Gutz of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Louise Gutz of Storm Lake; extended family and friends.
Gerhardt was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Louise; son, Bernie Gutz; brother, Norman Gutz; sisters: Pauline Gutz, Victoria Christensen, and Vera Vallie; and brothers-in-law, Norton Morse and Bob Christensen.
