Panthers advance in Twin Lakes tournament
LAKE VIEW - With a 2-1 finish on the opening night of the Twin Lakes Conference tournament, the St. Mary's girls have advanced into the top eight playing tonight in Laurens.
The Panthers were 2-0 winners over both Pocahontas Area-Pomeroy-Palmer (21-11, 21-18) and Manson Northwest Webster (26-24, 21-15) and fell to East Sac County in two (10-21, 14-21).
"We played much better," said St. Mary's head coach Ryan Berg. "We passed the ball better, had more balance in our hitting, and served well in most games. We showed some toughness in coming back in game two against Pocahontas after trailing 16-13. We finished on and 8-2 run thanks to strong serving. We also battled hard to pull out a tight first game against Manson. Both teams had several chances to win it, but luckily we came away victorious."
Against Manson NWW, Jasmine Demers had five kills, four digs and an ace. Maddie Laven had three kills, five digs and two aces, Renae Drey had three kills, Ashley Lullmann 12 assists and Mary Rose Timko five digs and two aces.
Against Poky, Demers had six kills and eight digs, Laven three kills, four digs and three aces, Lullmann two kills, 10 assists, four digs and three aces, Drey three kills and Timko and Rachel Todd four digs apiece.
The Panthers (12-13) meet Laurens-Marathon at 5:30PM tonight, with the winner taking on the winner of East Sac County and Prairie Valley.
