Steven D. Sargent, 39, of Platteville went to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, October 4, after a hard fought battle with paraganglioma, a rare neuroendrocrine cancer. A celebration of his life was held on his 40th birthday at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 9, at the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville, Wis.

Steven was born on October 9, 1972, in Storm Lake, the son of Robert and Caroll (Moeller) Sargent. He was united in marriage to Kimberly DeJong on July 13, 1996, at the Morningside Reformed Church, Sioux City. Steve graduated from the University of South Dakota with a BS in Business Administration. He was employed by Menard's for 14 years, working in Sioux City, Council Bluffs, and Rochester, Minn. Steve became general manager in 2003 of the Menard's in Fort Dodge. In 2007 Steve became the general manager of the new Menard's store in Platteville, Wis. He was an active member of the Lutheran Church of Peace. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed boating, wake boarding, tubing, and biking with his family. Steve is survived by his wife, Kimberly, and their three children, Alexander, Aiden, and Madelyn all of Platteville; sister, Lori (Steve) O'Conner of Vacaville, Calif.; step-mother, Sherry Sargent of Sioux Falls, S.D.; father and mother-in-law, Earl and Carol DeJong of Belle Plaine; sister-in-law, Michelle (Ted Reis) Sleezer of Cherokee; nieces and nephew, Shelbi and Sydney Barlak, Brianna Sleezer, Jenna DeJong, and Devynne and Bronsan Reis. Steve was a loving husband, father, and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Sargent, mother, Caroll (Moeller) Sargent, infant sister, Victoria Rose, and brother-in-law, David DeJong.
