Dorothy Madsen was born January 18, 1914 in Holstein, the daughter of Charley and Alvena (Barnes) Madsen. She received her education in the rural schools of Holstein and after one year of high school, she then remained at home to help her father and ill mother on their farm.
On November 17, 1937, she married Carl Paul Pries in Holstein. They farmed in the Holstein area until 1971 when they retired to a home in Holstein. He husband passed away in 1973.
Dorothy was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein and an active member of the Ladies Aid. She served as president for four years and treasurer for four years.
On December 29, 1976, she married Dr. Chester A. Brecher of Storm Lake. She then became a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake and also a member of St. John Ladies Aid.
Dorothy enjoyed traveling, especially to Arizona with her husband, Chester. She loved her Bridge Clubs and getting together with family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory include step children: Douglas Brecher of Fort Collins, Colo.; Mary Lou (Dr. W. A. Warner) of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter-in-law, Sally Brecher of Storm Lake; six step grandchildren; nephew, Verdean (Theone) Bremer of Ida Grove; niece, Kay (Darrell) Whitehead of Audubon; extended family and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; sisters: Thelma, Mrs. W.M. Bremer, Frances, Mrs. Robert Andresen, Alice Mrs. Earl Scott; nephew, Larry Scott; and niece, Darlean Long.
