Karen Sump, age 69, of Oakdale, Minn. and formerly of Storm Lake, died October 3, in Oakdale.
Karen was born on June 24, 1943, in Luzerne. She was baptized in 1943 in Fort Dodge. She was later adopted by Martin and Mathilda (Buchholz) Sump and joined by a brother, Merle and sister, Shirley. She was confirmed in the faith in 1957.
Growing up, Karen attended first through eighth grades at Zion Lutheran School in rural Storm Lake. Karen graduated from Albert City-Truesdale in 1961. While attending high school, she was a cheerleader and the Homecoming Queen. Following high school graduation, she attended Mankato Commercial College where she graduated in 1962.
Karen had an extensive doll collection. She enjoyed singing in the church choir. Karen was a longtime accountant for 3M in St. Paul, Minn. until she retired in June of 2002.
Karen was a member of Eastern Heights Lutheran Church. Karen valued family above all else and was very proud of her many nieces and nephews.
Those left to cherish her memory include her biological sister, Dorene Corbin; biological brother, Gerald Martinsen; sister-in-law, Joyce (Ron) Nehring; nieces: Dawn Betsill, Melissa Cerda, Tracey Denney, Candace Sump, Sue Schmidt; great-nieces & nephews: Haillee, Hannah, Bianca and Eric Cerda, Savannah Betsill, Jason and Dustin Denney, Justin and Adrianna Schmidt; and extended family and friends.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Mathilda; brother, Merle Sump and biological brother, Richard Jahde; sister, Shirley Easley; nephew, Craig Sump; and niece, Tonya Sump.
