Public Intoxication

On the morning of Saturday, October 6, at approximately 11:16 a.m., the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 532 Oates Street in reference to a disturbance in progress in the hallway of the apartment complex.

Upon arrival of police they encountered an adult male and female engaged in an argument in the hallway. Police intervened and identified the two as Michael Whiteside and Shurnell Brown both of Storm Lake.

Police allege that Brown came to Whiteside's apartment and began kicking his door eventually shattering the frame and causing approximately $100 in damage. Whiteside then exited the apartment and a yelling match ensued.

Police arrested both parties and charged Brown with Disorderly Conduct and Criminal Mischief 5th Degree. She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $600 cash bond.

Whiteside was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication 2nd Offense and Disorderly Conduct. He was booked into the county jail on a $1300 cash bond.

No injuries were reported.

Teenager threatens mother

On the afternoon of Friday, October 5, at approximately 4:36 p.m., the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 231 Russell Street in reference to a missing person.

Upon arrival of police they met with the reporting party who told police that a 14 year old male of Storm Lake had allegedly threatened to "spill his mother's blood on the floor." He then fled from the residence and had not been seen by the family.

The 14 year old had been arrested earlier in the week for Huffing and running from the police.

Police searched the area but were unable to locate the juvenile male. At approximately 9:00 p.m. acting on a tip police located the 14 year old male at the Vista Theater.

Police took the juvenile into custody and charged him with Harassment 3rd Degree. He was transported to the Youth Detention Facility in Cherokee, pending a court date.

The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.
