Key Club helps UNICEF cause

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

Storm Lake High School's Key Club is collecting donations for Trick or Treat for UNICEF. If you see one of our orange boxes at a local business, please donate!

Funds from this year's drive are going toward the Eliminate Project.

Kiwanis and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus.

Neonatal tetanus kills one baby every nine minutes - nearly 60,000 newborn children every year. A significant number of women also die due to maternal tetanus. The effects of the disease are excruciating - tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch.

To eliminate MNT from the Earth, 129 million mothers and their future babies must be immunized. This requires vaccines, syringes, safe storage, transportation, thousands of skilled staff and more. It will take $110 million and the dedication of Key Club and Kiwanis members to eliminate MNT.

Friday, October 26th, watch for Key Club students going door-to-door to Trick or Treat for UNICEF. Storm Lake High School Key Club's goal for 2012 is $351.
