Teenagers charged with huffing

On the evening of Wednesday, October 3, at approximately 7:03 p.m., the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 231 Russell Street in reference to a report that some juveniles had been huffing.

Upon arrival of police they determined that two juveniles had allegedly been huffing paint and had since left the area.

Police observed the juvenile sin a vehicle in the 500 block of Oneida Street. Police stopped the vehicle and upon contacting the occupants police had two 14 year old males of Storm Lake exit the vehicle.

After exiting the vehicle one of the juvenile males fled on foot and a foot pursuit ensued which ended about a block away when an officer caught the youth in a foot chase.

Police conducted an investigation and subsequently charged one 14 year old male with Huffing. He was processed and released to a parent pending a court date.

The second 14 year old male was charged with Huffing and Interference With Official Acts. He was processed and released to a parent pending a court date.

The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.

Police received information that a third 14 year old male of Storm Lake had allegedly engaged in huffing at the time and location of the initial incident but had fled from the scene prior to the arrival of police.

On Thursday, October 4, Storm Lake Police made contact with the third juvenile at 129 Seneca Street. He was charged with Huffing and following processing he was released to a parent pending a court date.

The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.

Failure to Appear in court

On the evening of Wednesday, October 3, at approximately 8:24 p.m., the Storm Lake Police Department responded to 327 Otsego Street in reference to locating a wanted person.

Upon arrival of police they located and arrested Tyler Lichtenberg, age 23 of Storm Lake, who was wanted on a warrant charging him with Failure to Appear in Court reference Driving While Revoked.

He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $1,000 cash bond.

Fire call

On the morning of Tuesday, October 2, at approximately 11:51 a.m., the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to the Lambertti Recreational Center on the campus of Buena Vista University in reference to an automated fire alarm.

Upon arrival of fire fighters they located a smoke detector on the second floor balcony which had activated.

There was no smoke and no fire.

Fire fighters believe that dust in the smoke detector caused the alarm.

The fire department was on scene for approximately 15 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department and the BVU Security Department.
