Sylvan Learning Centers of Northwest Iowa, located in Spencer, will be bringing its math and reading tutoring programs to a new satellite location in Storm Lake in the AEA building this month. Another new location will open in Spirit Lake.
"Following on the heels of our successful satellite center opening in Sioux Center this past June, we are excited to be opening two additional centers in Northwest Iowa," said Brent Burns, Sylvan Executive Director.
"The 'SylvanSync' program, which combines teacher-led instruction, a personalized learning plan and an effective use of iPadŽ technology, is what will be used to deliver our programs in our Storm Lake and Spirit Lake locations." Burns continued, "We realize that the time commitment for parents and grandparents in getting their students to Sylvan is tremendous and sometimes not feasible for families that live farther away from Spencer. These two new locations, along with our Sioux Center program and our original Spencer location, make Sylvan more convenient for more people than ever before."
Internationally-known Sylvan's math and reading programs are designed for school age children. The student's individual learning plan is developed through a series of diagnostic assessments and is then customized to build the skills they need to do better in school and to give them the confidence to do better in everything else. The student's program is delivered in a 3:1 student to teacher ratio and regular progress assessments are administered to track the student's success.
"Our focus is on mastery and anchoring. We teach the identified skills until the student has mastered them, and we then revisit these skills periodically to make sure they are anchored in the student's skill set," said Burns.
Student and teacher applications are being accepted now. More information can be obtained by contacting Brent Burns at the Sylvan Learning Center in Spencer at (712) 580-2008.
