Tornadoes level record with win over E-Hawks
STORM LAKE - Hosting their now annual Spike Out Cancer Night, the Storm Lake girl's volleyball team picked up their first Lakes Conference victory of the season Tuesday night as they topped Emmetsburg for the second time in four days, this one in four by finals of 25-15, 25-23, 20-25, 25-13.
"Our Spike Out Cancer night was a huge success with the freshman, JV, and varsity teams all winning," said Storm Lake head coach Kim Johnson. "It was also a special night where each athlete, manager, and coach played in honor or memory of someone touched by cancer. The varsity team earned it's first conference victory of the season. I would still like us to play more consistently from game to game and sometimes even point to point. We have some things to work on in practice to prepare for Spirit Lake on Thursday."
Senior Maggie Freking led the Tornadoes Tuesday, totaling 11 kills in 31 attempts. She also turned in 11 digs, four blocks and was 23-of-25 serving with 10 aces.
Lily Freking had eight kills in 17 attempts and added 15 digs and two aces.
Annabelle Eades had seven kills in 14 attempts, three digs and two aces, Emily Johnson had seven kills and three digs, Callie Kroker had four kills and five digs, Megan Miller had 10 digs and an ace, and Erin Schuelke had two kills, 26 assists, six digs, three blocks and five aces.
The Tornadoes totaled 39 kills to just 19 errors. They were 83-of-94 (88%) serving with 20 aces.
The Tornadoes now sit at 9-9 on the season, while Emmetsburg drops to 3-21.
The Tornadoes are on the road to visit Spirit Lake (13-12) tonight.
