INWOOD - Alta-Aurelia took on their second straight top-ten district foe Friday night as they fell at #7 West Lyon in a 42-7 final.
"Best team we've seen yet," said Alta-Aurelia head coach Kevin Hammer. "We did a lot of positive things. West Lyon does a nice job of running their triple option. You've got to have your guys disciplined and not bite. They were just a better football than we are right now."
The Wildcats leaned heavily on quarterback Brandon Snyder, who rushed seven times for 122 yards, including a 75-yard TD to open scoring in the first. Kaleb Meyer added 126 yards on 13 carries. Meyer had another 92 yards and TD through the air.
West Lyon totaled 351 yards on 43 carries Friday, while Alta-Aurelia had 51 rushes for 165 yards.
The Wildcats (5-1) led 28-0 at the half. Michael Stender punched in the lone Warriors score on a five yard run in the fourth.
Garrett Van Houten led Alta-Aurelia with 82 yards on 28 carries. Manny Murillo carried 15 times for 51 yards. The Warriors took another hit in the injury department as the recently reactivated Alex Stephan went down again after a shot to the head.
Alta-Aurelia did excel in the turnover department Friday as they gave away none to the Wildcats three.
"We did a lot of positive things," said Hammer. "We're going to knock off another team here yet. I love the way the kids are fighting and battling. We'll keep working on them. We've made positive strides. We didn't turn the ball over. We're limiting mental mistakes. This team has improved every week."
Next up for Alta-Aurelia (1-5) is a home contest with Akron-Westfield.
