MAPLETON - Ridge View wrapped up a third place finish at the Western Valley Conference tournament in Mapleton on Monday as they opened with a win over West Monona (25-12, 25-8), fell to Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto in the semifinals (19-25, 25-18, 15-13) and topped Ar-We-Va in the third place game (25-21, 25-10).
"We came out and played very well against West Monona," said Ridge View head coach Scott Mitchell. "Really passed and hit the ball well. In the semifinals against Maple Valley, we played very good, aggressive defense. We didn't serve receive very well and weren't able to get into our offense. Give all the credit to Maple Valley. They played hard and won two big matches. Games like those are fun to watch. In the third place game, I think both teams were fighting an emotional letdown after getting beaten in highly-contested semifinals. I was happy that the girls kept playing hard and doing the little things right."
Kaitlynn Madsen led the attack with 30 kills on the night. Gretchen Kistenmacher had 19 to go with 34 digs. Nicole Snyder had 64 assists, Dana Hustedt 32 digs and Jayde Vondrak four blocks.
Ridge View now sits at 24-3 overall. They meet MVAO again Tuesday night on the road.
