DUBUQUE - Loras College lead 3-0 at the half and added a late second half goal to hand the Buena Vista women's soccer team its first setback of the season on Saturday afternoon inside of the Rock Bowl. The match was the Iowa Conference opener for both teams.
The Duhawks, the defending regular season co-champions, got on the board early on when they converted on a free kick from just outside of the penalty box just two minutes into play. They made it 20-0 with a goal during the 24th minute before extending the margin to three eight minutes later.
Loras (6-3, 1-0 IIAC), which out-shot the Beavers 23-3 on the day, added the game's final goal with nearly 10 minutes left in regulation.
Sam Richards tallied two of the three shots for BVU in the contest with both being on-goal. Nicole Smith added the final shot for the Beavers which suffered their first loss of the season.
Buena Vista (8-1-1, 0-1 IIAC) will be back in action again on Tuesday night when the team steps out of league play for a non-conference road match at the College of St. Mary. It will then return home on Friday night for a 5:00pm contest against Coe College
