Police observe passenger vomiting on road

On the morning of Sunday, September 23, at approximately 2:17 a.m., a Storm Lake Police Officer stopped a vehicle near the intersection of East 5th Street and Seneca Street.

The officer had previously observed the vehicle stopped in the roadway and a passenger in the rear seat hanging out of the back door vomiting on the roadway. Police stopped the vehicle to check on the welfare of the passenger.

While speaking with the vehicle's occupants police determined that a second occupant identified as Razelle Tabb, age 27 of Storm Lake, was wanted out of Cherokee on the charge of Theft 5th Degree and Contempt of Court.

Tabb was arrested and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $480.25 cash bond.

Public Intoxication

On the morning of Sunday, September 23, at approximately 1:55 a.m., a Storm Lake Police Officer was sitting in an unmarked vehicle in the 300 block of Dorinda Drive.

While sitting in the police vehicle the officer observed an adult male come up to the vehicle he was sitting in and attempt several times to make entry into the car. The officer exited the vehicle and made contact with Albert Quintana, age 19 of Storm Lake. Police allege that Quintana was very intoxicated and was confused about what car he was attempting to enter.

Police arrested Quintana and charged him with Public Intoxication. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 cash bond.

While on location police report they observed a second person yelling abusive statements towards a crowd of people. Police intervened and identified the person as Samay Keobabpha, age 22 of Storm Lake.

Police learned that Keobabpha had been involved in an argument with the other group and was allegedly yelling at them.

Police arrested Keobabpha and charged her with Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication. She was booked into the county jail on a $600 cash bond.

Four minors arrested at bar

On the morning of Sunday, September 23, at approximately 1:15 a.m., Storm Lake Police Officers were conducting a bar check at the Malarky's Night Club.

Upon conducting the check police allege they observed four minors clearly marked as minors consuming alcoholic beverages.

Police conducted an investigation and arrested Mikaela Millslagel, age 18 of Lamoni, Alexis Moreno, age 18 of Glenwood, and Andres Mancilla, age 19 of Storm Lake. All three were charged with Possession of Alcohol. They were cited and released.

A fourth person identified as Dylan Fluke, age 19 of Quimby, was charged with Possession of Alcohol and Public Intoxication. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $600 cash bond.

Man attempts to siphon gas from vehicle

On the evening of Saturday, September 22, at approximately 10:40 p.m., the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 230 Hudson Street in reference to a report of a person attempting to steal gas.

Upon arrival of police they learned that a male subject was allegedly attempting to siphon gas from the reporting party's vehicle while it was parked in his driveway. A motion light alerted the suspect who ran westbound from the residence.

Responding officer located the suspect approximately one block from the home and identified him as Andrew Havens, age 22 of Dows.

Police located and seized a gas can and rubber hose during their investigation.

Police charged Havens with Tampering With a Motor Vehicle. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 cash bond.

Fire Call

On the morning of Sunday, September 23, at approximately 2:35 a.m., the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to 504 West 8th Street in reference to a report of smoke coming from the engine compartment of a vehicle.

Upon arrival of fire fighters it was determined that the vehicle was not on fire and was releasing steam from an apparent leak in the engine coolant system.

There was no action taken by the fire department.

The fire department was on scene for approximately 5 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department.

Drug Paraphernalia

On the morning of Saturday, September 22, at approximately 1:16 a.m., a Storm Lake Police Officer on patrol observed two persons sitting in a vehicle parked on the north side of Malarky's Night Club.

Police allege the officer observed the occupants attempting to light the center of a can with a lighter. The officer approached the vehicle and made contact with the occupants at which time police allege the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana.

Police took the two occupants identified as Clayton Woodke, age 21 of Schaller, and Austin Pederson, age 18 of Newell, into custody.

Police report they located and seized a homemade smoking device and a small amount of marijuana from the vehicle.

Following an investigation police charged both men with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Both men were booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $1,300 cash bond each.

Disturbance at King's Pointe

On the evening of Saturday, September 22, at approximately 8:18 p.m., the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Kings Pointe Resort in reference to a reported disturbance in room # 219.

Upon arrival of police they were told that witnesses heard yelling and banging noises coming from room #219.

Police made contact with the occupants of the room identified as Rhett Jensen, age 20 of Iowa City, and Ashley Hoppe, age 18 of Hiawatha.

Police learned that the two room occupants engaged in a verbal argument at which time Jensen allegedly punch a hole in the bathroom door in the guest room.

Following an investigation police arrested Jensen and charged him with Criminal Mischief 4th Degree, Disorderly Conduct and Possession of Alcohol. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $1,600 cash bond.

Hoppe was charged with Possession of Alcohol. She was cited and released pending a court date.

Damage to the guest room door is estimated at $450.

No injuries were reported.

Burglary

On September 21, a burglary at 315 West Milwaukee Avenue in Storm Lake was reported. The total value of the items reported stolen was estimated at $727.

Vehicle Accidents

On September 14, at approximately 8:19 a.m., near the intersection of W. 5th and Ontario Street in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Milton Vasquez of Storm Lake was involved in an accident with another vehicle driven by James Huseman of Storm Lake. The two vehicles collided causing one injury and total damages estimated at $5,000. Vasquez was cited for Failure to Have Valid Drivers License. Huseman was cited for Failure to Stop Within a Safe and Assured Distance.

On September 21, at approximately 2:56 p.m., at the intersection of Tornado and Oneida in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Bentley Bihrer of Cherokee struck a street sign. Total damages were estimated at $150.

Wanted man found after traffic offense

On the evening of Friday, September 21, at approximately 10:00 p.m., a Storm Lake Police Officer stopped a vehicle in the 1300 block of East Lakeshore Drive for a traffic offense.

Upon contacting the driver identified as Steven Thongphanh Vorasith, age 25 of Storm Lake, police learned that he was wanted out of Polk County, for Violation of Probation reference Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Police arrested Vorasith without incident and booked him into the Buena Vista County Jail where he was held without bond.
