On Wednesday, October 3, Iowans from every corner of the state will join in one-kilometer walks that symbolize our efforts to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation by 2016.
Last year, Iowans made a good start on our quest to become the nation's healthiest state. More than 291,000 residents participated in the "Start Somewhere" Walk in 2011, and we want to build on the momentum this year.
One kilometer is about seven and a half city blocks and takes about 12 minutes to complete for the average walker. Here is Storm Lake we are encouraging our customers, friends and neighbors to get involved in the Healthiest State Walk that will start at Awaysis Park (near King's Pointe Resort) at noon. In addition, Healthiest State Initiative leaders are asking Iowans to add one more wellness activity to their day on October 3. For example, you may consider playing outside with your children, eating together as a family or volunteering.
Please join our organized walk, or walk informally with your neighbors or by yourself any time on October 3. You can find more information at www.iowahealthieststate.com. Let's keep the momentum going as we become the healthiest state!
