Darrell Dean McConkey, age 72, of Storm Lake, died Tuesday, September 11, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Darrell Dean McConkey was born July 25, 1940 in Storm Lake, the son of Carl and Lydia (Grieme) McConkey. On August 18, 1940 Darrell was baptized at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. His sponsors were Ruby Steig and AJ Schuler. He was later confirmed on June 13, 1954.
Growing up, Darrell attended school in Sulphur Springs where he graduated from Sulphur Springs Providence Consolidated in 1958.
On March 22, 1972, Darrell was united in marriage to Sharon Marie Peterson in Kaw City, Okla. Together they raised three children: Roxanne, Denise, and Stacey.
Darrell was a member of 4-H and FFA growing up. He enjoyed showing calves for 4-H. Later on in life, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and woodworking. In his spare time, Darrell loved watching television, especially, Westerns or Iowa Pickers. He treasured his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Darrell will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sharon McConkey of Storm Lake; children: Roxanne (Gary) Eibergen of Granton, Wis.; Denise (David) Allen of Randleman, N.C.; Stacey (Theresa) McConkey of Granton, Wis.; grandchildren: Connie and Kevin Eibergen of Granton, Wis.; Noah, Maya, and Brady McConkey of Granton, Wis.; Ashley and Dalton Allen of Randleman, N.C.; brother, Darwin (Lois) McConkey of Alta; sisters: Shirley (Don) Elliott of Omaha, Neb.; Marlene (Bruce) Terrillion of Papillion, Neb.; brother-in-law, Bill Peterson of Maurice; extended family and friends.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Darlene McConkey; nephew, Scott McConkey; father and mother-in-law; sisters-in-law, Rose Belle and Alice.
