Robert Elwood Fortin was born October 13, 1938 in Denver, Colo. the son of Polydore Joseph and Linnea I. (Paulson) Fortin. Growing up, he attended Manuel High School and was a member of Highlander Boys. While attending high school, Robert was appointed a Cadet First Lieutenant in the fifth Unit of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps.
On November 14, 1956, Robert enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was a radio specialist and served his country until he was honorably discharged on November 10, 1960.
In April 1968, Robert was united in marriage to Tamra Sheets in Steamboat Springs, Colo. To this union four children were born, Julie, Lindy, Charles, and Jessica. Together they moved to Storm Lake where he worked for Wisconsin Lumber Company and later had his own roofing and repair company. In 1987, he began driving for Furst McNess in Storm Lake until his retirement in October 2011.
Robert was baptized in November of 1976 at the First Baptist Church in Storm Lake where he remained a member. He also severed on various boards and committees.
While on the road truck driving, Robert had little time for hobbies but he did enjoyed helping the children "fix up" their houses when he could. Driving really was his "hobby." He loved his family and treasured the time he was able to spend with them. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Tamra Fortin of Storm Lake; children: Julie (Rich) Klahn of Urbandale; Lindy Fortin of Eagan, Minn.; Charles (Kim) Fortin of Savage, Minn.; Jessica Fortin of Robbinsdale, Minn.; five grandchildren: Allison and Jared Klahn; Mikayla Hernandez; Maraike and Dominik Fortin; brother, Ken (Carol) Fortin of Loveland, Colo.; sister, Joan Oswalt of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; sister-in-law, Koy (Bob) Wolverton of Storm Lake; brother-in-law, Art (Themla) Sheets of Longmont, Colo.; many nieces and nephews; extended family and many friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brother-in-law, Bob Oswalt; and a nephew.
