Alta Kiwanis Notes
The Alta Kiwanis met Tuesday, Sept. 11 at Wel-Life.
Guest speaker was Wendell Larson - Alta-Aurelia cross country coach. Mr. Larson is in his 10th year as coach. There are nine girls and 13 boys on the team. Alta-Aurelia, which took part in the state meet a year ago, was rated earlier in the year. The team is using GPS watches during practice. The watches show how far an athlete runs and how fast they run each mile. GPS watches are charged like a cellphone.
The team has run in two meets, LeMars and Holstein. A-A will host a home meet on Monday, Sept. 24. For the first time A-A will host a conference cross country meet on Saturday, Oct. 13.
Two or three members from the Kiwanis club are going to Aurelia on Thursday to present their club with their share of ticket-taking receipts from baseball and softball games.
Friday, Sept. 21, the Kiwanis will serve homecoming breakfast for the A-A football players at Alta Golf and Country Club.
Installation of newly elected Kiwanis officers will be held Tuesday, Sept. 25 at Storm Lake Methodist Church hosted by Storm Lake Beavers Kiwanis Club.
Club member dues ($86) are due by Oct. 1.
Receipts from pop can sorting held Sept. 7: $248.25.
Kiwanis members will meet with their Partners in Excellence partners about involvement in homecoming activities.
