Ben Hecht of Fonda, was awarded the $1000 4-H/IFAA Foundation Scholarship by the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement (IFAA) during the Iowa State Fair Sale of Champions on Saturday, August 18. Ben's parents are Evan and Colleen Hecht.

"IFAA established the Winner's Circle Scholarship Program in 1990 to provide incentives for college-bound youth seeking post secondary education in an area of agriculture," said Harold Hodson of Ankeny, who chairs the IFAA Scholarship Committee. Over $151,500 in scholarships were awarded to 120 youth this year by IFAA.

Ben was an active nine year member in 4-H. He participated in communication events at the Iowa State Fair for eight years and had many projects exhibited at the state fair. "Through 4-H, I have learned how to plan, organize and budget my use of money and time; these skills will be extremely useful as I begin my college career" says Ben. Ben is a 2012 graduate of Newell-Fonda High School. He is a freshman at Iowa State University majoring in Agricultural Engineering.
