Following a fire at a large turkey barn in rural Newell Tuesday afternoon, loss has been estimated at $750,000.

After the Newell Fire Department requested mutual aid, eight departments responded, including Albert City, Alta, Early, Fonda, Nemaha, Rembrandt, Storm Lake and Varina.

Departments were on scene for approximately seven hours, after the fire was reported shortly after 1:00 p.m. at 1921 610th Street.

Buena Vista Regional Medical Center paramedics were on scene as a precaution, but no injuries were reported.

At the time of the fire, no turkeys were in the building.

Although the Buena Vista County Sheriff's Office said the fire appears to be accidental, a joint investigation continues with the Newell Fire Department to determine what caused the building to start on fire.
