Although Julian West has only been working as an assistant county attorney for about a month, it has proven to be a busy one.

With little shortage of work to be completed at the Buena Vista county attorney's office, West said he appreciates the collaboration between his office and local law enforcement.

"It seems to me like it's a heavy ship but it's being steered efficiently," he explained.

A typical week for him includes court on Monday, magistrate on Tuesday and preparing for court, conducting depositions and working on plea deals Wednesday through Friday.

West, originally from Decorah, received an undergraduate degree from Grinnell College and graduated with distinction from the University of Iowa's College of Law.

"I've spent most of my life in eastern Iowa," he said. "I'm excited to be part of western Iowa---it's different, but I like it."

While pursuing his legal education, West wrote for the Journal of Corporation Law and enjoyed studying constitutional law, which includes criminal law and individual liberties.

In his spare time, he enjoys running, sports and reading.
