The Newell Historical Society (NHS) celebrated the addition of the Keith Carter Museum to the Allee Mansion last Saturday, Aug. 4 as well as receiving the Loren Horton Community Historical Society Award from the State of Iowa Historical Society. The award recognizes the NHS for outstanding use of volunteer at the Allee Mansion.

A ribbon cutting for the museum was attended by well over 250 people who also enjoyed tours, participating in demonstrations and lawn displays of restored tractors, buggies and bikes.

The NHS is housed in the 1891 Queen Ann Victorian Allee Mansion located on the Iowa State Research Farm one mile south of Newell. The NHS volunteers have been restoring the Mansion for the past 20 years with authentic furnishings and wall coverings. The organization has been recognized for outstanding historical preservation by the Iowa Historic Preservation Alliance and has received funding through the Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) and the Buena Vista County Community Foundation.
