Goodtimes band set for beach show

Friday, August 3, 2012

The Mighty Nish Band will be performing in Storm Lake on Saturday, August 11 from 7 to 11 p.m. at Awaysis Beach at King's Pointe. This outdoor event, sponsored by Storm Lake United, is free and open to the public.

The well-traveled band recently appeared as part of the entertainment for RAGBRAI in Cherokee.

The Mighty Nish Band is named after the not-so-mighty Nishnabotna River that flows through Harlan, Iowa where the members grew up. (However, in this band's vocabularly, "Nish" is synonymous with a party, they say.)

There they began performing together in the 80's. The four piece group is made up of two brothers, their cousin, and their long time best friend. The members have been playing together in various groups such as Dead End and Blues Meister since 1982, and played their first show as MNB in 2003. The Mighty Nish Band takes your favorite songs and makes them their own by mixing in a lot of fun and energy.

"The Mighty Nish Band is super excited to bring our party to Storm Lake on Saturday, August 11. Our shows are always memorable and fun for all ages," said band member, Jason Burmeister.

Featuring covers of hit songs from a wide variety of artists, such as the Rolling Stones, Green Day, Bob Marley, Brooks and Dunn, Aerosmith, LMFAO, Billy Joel, Taio Cruz, the Righteous Brothers, Pink and many more, the Mighty Nish Band is sure not to disappoint. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and dancing shoes.

Everyone will be talking about that great band with the crazy rock and roll accordion -- yes, accordion.

The band has a vast repertoire from '1950s songs to today's hits, with powerful four part harmonies, unique arrangements and a touch of humor. The performance is not just a collection of enjoyable songs but rather a fun interactive show with audience participation. Once the dancers are on their feet the Mighty Nish Band keeps them there with a tight rhythm section and impressive solos to entertain the dancers and listeners alike.

Members Gary Petersen, Jamie Burmeister, Jason Burmeister, and Seth Burmeister say their musical influences are as diverse as their set list, growing up on everything from Billy joel to the Beastie Boys, Elis to Aerosmith, Bob Marley to Charlie Daniels, AC/DC to Elvis.
