Donald Fred Kies was born April 9, 1930 in rural Wall Lake, the son of Ezra and Jane (Tebben) Kies. As an infant, he was baptized at Wheatland Presbyterian Church where he was later confirmed.
Growing up, Donald attended school through tenth grade in Wall Lake.
On December 18, 1949, Donald was united in marriage to Rosie L. Juilfs in Pomeroy. Together, they were blessed with four children: Eugene D., Marlene E., Bonnie S., and Wayne D.
Donald was a member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling, meeting people, and clock repairs. Donald had a tender caring heart and was a member of the Good Sams-Helping Hands. Donald loved his family and treasured being able to spend time visiting with them. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 62 years, Rosie L. Kies of Storm Lake; children: Eugene (Micki) Kies of Steamboat Rock; Marlene (Ray) Daisy of Chapman, Kan.; Bonnie (Gene) Simpson of Sac City; Wayne (Rachael) Kies of Monticello, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; sister, Darlene J. (Darwin) Becker of Lakeview; brother-in-law: Derrald Juilfs of St. James, Minn.; extended family and friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Ezra and Jane Kies; mother and father-in-law, Geo and Marie Juilfs; and sister-in-law, Delphine Lange.
