Richard G. Shade, age 34, of Alta, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, at his residence of Alta. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 21, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. John Lutheran Church of Alta with the Rev. John H. Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery of Alta. There will be no visitation. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta is in charge of the arrangements.

Richard Shade was born February 21, 1978 in Omaha, Neb. to Jack and Charlotte (Carper) Shade. The family moved to Eaton Rapids, Mich. in 1988 and he graduated from Eaton Rapids High School in 1996. After graduation Richard attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, from 1996 to 1998 then Pan Am Flight Academy in Vero Beach, Fla. from 2004-2005. He worked for Northwest Airlines in Lansing, Mich. from 2000-2004 and in Minneapolis, Minn. from 2005-2009. He then moved to Storm Lake, and worked for Vetter Implement from 2011-2012 and was farming in Alta. He was married to Katherine Millard June 25, 2005.

He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Floyd Shade and Alvern Carper; and grandmother, Agnes Carper.

Richard is survived by his parents, Jack and Charlotte Shade of Eaton Rapids, Mich.; his brother Brett and wife Michelle Shade of Wylie, Texas; his sister, Heather and her husband Eric Pricco of Webberville, Mich.; nieces and nephews, Mandee Shade and Brett Alan Shade of Wylie, Texas, Lanae Shade of Potterville, Mich., Brendon Pricco, Logan Pricco and Olivia Pricco of Webberville, Mich.; great-niece Makayla of Potterville, Mich; his grandmother, Gertrude Shade of Bassett, Neb.; a special aunt and uncle, Dave and Trish Friedrich of Alta; and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the Capital Area Downs Syndrome Association of Lansing, Mich.
