Wyatt, 14, and Mackenzie Ballou, 12, Newell, participated in the Iowa Games on Saturday. July 14 in Ames.

Both took part in the sparring portion of the competition. The Ballou kids have practiced martial arts for over four years. This is Wyatt's second time participating in the games and Mackenzie's first. They are students of Hemann Tae kwon do in Fort Dodge. The Ballous and one other student from the Fort Dodge school participated in the games this year and all of them brought home a metal.

Wyatt said, " It was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the competition!"

Mackenzie commented, "It was a really fun experience that helped me learn what I need to do better by watching other people."

Their coaches Bill Dutcher, Tom Hemann and Kelly Kuester were all there to help the students warm up and coach them on during the event.

Bill Dutcher said, " Iowa Games Tae Kwon Do - it's all about the experience and fun."
