When the annual Rembrandt Alumni Reunion is held on Saturday, July 21, there will be a very special centerpiece - an original, hand-painted tile by Rembrandt, the famous Dutch baroque painter of the 1600s.

The art object is on loan, arranged by the Pearson Family of Pearson Lakes Art Center, Okoboji. It will be on display at Our Savior's Lutheran Church preceding the Alumni Band performance. An open invitation is extended to all patrons of the arts in the area as well as the alumni members, classmates, staff and friends to view this tile and visit with the Pearson family. They will be available from 1:30 pm until 4:30 pm on Saturday afternoon, the 21st.

Rembrandt was named for the painter, whose life was as marred by personal tragedies, financial problems brought on by lavish spending and controversial relationships as his work was innovative and prolific. Incorporated in 1901, the name was apparently suggested by an employee of the rail line that had come through the area, paving the way for settlement. There was some dispute over the name, however, as the original landowner had wanted the town named for him, Orsland.

For more information on the reunion, see today's Neighbors page.
