The Alta Kiwanis met Tuesday, July 10 at Wel-Life.
Speaker of the day was Brad Pedersen who works for the city of Alta and is in charge of the waste water system. Alta is in the process of updating its waste water system. The new system, at 90% completion, has been in operation since May 22 and is expected to be fully completed by September. The new facility uses aerobic or air to separate solids, harmful chemicals, nitrates, and bacteria. Part of the project includes connecting Lake Creek with Alta waste water system. This system deals only with waste water not solid waste. various tests are conducted every week to check on ammonia and phosphate levels.
Also present were Dennis Allen and John Smith from the Aurelia club. They requested help from our members to assist them when RAGBRAI comes through Aurelia on Monday, July 23.
The City of Alta requested the club to provide swimming passes for needy individuals. The cost of a season pass is $85. Since the swimming season is half over, our club offered to pay $250 but the park board which is in charge of the swimming pool declined the offer. After much discussion, it was voted to present the offer of $250 to the mayor.
A donation of $40 per game was made to KAYL for announcing boy's baseball and girl's softball games.
There is a request that Kiwanis members take tickets at BV County Fair July 12-15.
A motion was made and seconded to pay $250 for one member to attend the 93rd Nebraska-Iowa District Convention in Des Moines Aug. 3-4.
