Pastor's Corner: Bees, apples and summer wonders
Little buzzing always catch my attention. Years ago I passed a blooming sage bush and was amazed at the buzzing inside. I discovered hundreds of bees gathering nectar for their family. That intrigued me into thinking more about bees. After several classes and much reading I know have four hives. Last year I got 13 gallons of honey from them, and was it ever delicious!
This year I experimented with grafting apples from a wonderful apple tree. And again I was amazed! How incredible it is to be able to cut two different plants and watch them join together and heal up. In a couple of years, I should have bushels of delicious apples for eating and drinking. All because of God's amazing creation.
Lately, we've been hearing a lot about a "God Particle" known as the Higgs Boson. As Scientist work through their search and discovery of how matter exists and interacts, they continue to dig deeper and find more. First it was basic elements: fire, earth, wind, etc. Then they discovered molecules, which were made up of atoms, which were made up of atomic particles (electrons, protons, and neutrons) which are made up of sub-atomic particles (quarks, leptons, muons, etc). Creation is absolutely amazing!
Jesus told us, in Luke 12, that we are not to worry because we concern our lives about so many things we can't change. He also reminded us that God cares about us, about you and about me, deeply. He is the amazing Creator who gives great attention to all of his creation.
Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. (Luke 12:24-27 ESV)
What was the last time you "Considered" the lilies of the field or the birds in the air? God created a very unique environment to place his valuable creations in, especially those he made in his image. Not only that, but he shares part of himself with his creation and through it.
For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. (Romans 1:19-20 ESV)
In your busy and noisy day, and later on through this week, take time to do more than just pass by the lilies and birds. Stop and consider them! Look into God's amazing creation. Let him reveal himself to you there: his power, his love, his compassion, creativity and joy! Be amazed today!
