Jean L. Clifton, age 81, of Storm Lake died Wednesday, June 27, at the Holstein Good Samaritan Center in Holstein, Iowa.

Jean Lorraine Shaw was born March 16, 1931, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Daniel and Bertha (Huff) Shaw. She grew up in LeClaire, Iowa, where she attended school, graduating from LeClaire High School in 1948. During her time in high school, Jean was known as "Jeanne with the light brown hair" by her classmates, and consequently, has been Jeanne ever since. Additionally, she was active in cheerleading and pep club.

On June 25, 1948, Jeanne was united in marriage to Jack M. Lyons in LeClaire. This union was blessed with three daughters: Deborah Lynn, Janis Lorraine and Kim Leslie.

In 1970, Jeanne relocated to Storm Lake with her husband, Bob Clifton, and her daughter, Kim. For many years, Jeanne worked at Hy-Vee as a department head. It was during that time, she made many life-long friends. She and Bob became the proud owners of Babe's Restaurant/Bar in Truesdale, where she was known for her delicious prime rib and other specialties.

Jeanne enjoyed camping, boating and gardening. Having grown up on the Mississippi river, where her father was a riverboat pilot, Jean was especially fond of the water. Whether it was the river or Storm Lake, she would relish in the beauty of the water. Another of her enjoyments was listening to music. The music genre was wide and the selection was numerous, with the exception of Polka or twangy country tunes.

Her pride and joy was her family. Jeanne cherished and loved the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. She will be forever remembered as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, who possessed a warm and friendly spirit. Her laugh was contagious and her smile enlightening.

Those left to cherish Jeanne's memory include her daughters: Deborah Jackson of Davenport; Kim (Tony) Weiland of Alta; eight grandchildren: Cori (Brian) Thornton; Erin (Nick) Rice; Brandon Hass; Megan (Josh) Smyser; Joshua (Hannah) Weiland; Adam (Jenna) Weiland; Jonathan and Christian Weiland; six great grandchildren: son-in-law, David Hass of Davenport; two sisters: Wilma Causey of Muscatine and Betty Farren of California; one sister-in-law, Loretta Shaw of Houston, Texas; extended family and many friends.

Jeanne was preceded by her parents; daughter, Janis Hass; and one brother, Daniel Shaw.
