Panthers stumble to fourth straight loss

STORM LAKE - St. Mary's became the latest victim of Sioux Central's late season surge as the Rebels plated four runs in the sixth on their way to a 7-5 victory in Storm Lake Wednesday night.

St. Mary's grabbed the initial lead at 1-0 after the first. Sioux Central countered with three in the second, but the Panthers reclaimed a 4-3 lead in the fourth, before losing the lead for good in the sixth.

Sioux Central totaled 10 hits in the game, led by Hallie Ehlers, who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Lanae Shiley was 1-for-3 and drove in two, Natalie Jensen was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored, and Chandler Johannsen was 1-for-4 with a run driven in.

Gloria Jensen got the win on the mound, allowing five runs on seven hits. She walked four and struck out eight as the Rebels moved to 8-17.

Rachel Todd took the loss for St. Mary's, giving up seven runs, one earned, on six hits in seven innings. She walked one and struck out one.

Ashley Lullman was 1-for-3 with two runs driven in to lead the Panthers. Halie Larsen was 1-for-3 with one run scored and one driven in, Mackenzie Laven doubled and drove in a run, and Carissa Brown was 1-for-4 with a run scored.

The loss was the fourth in a row for St. Mary's (10-13) and their sixth in their last seven games. The Panthers will be in action today as they take part in the Storm Lake tournament with Emmetsburg, Fort Dodge St. Edmond and Harlan among those in attendance.
