Benefit for Mike
Michael Schroeder, 20, of Alta, has been learning to live a new life after an accident this spring left him with a spinal cord injury. He has been receiving rehabilitation services at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Neb. and expected to return home in July. On Saturday, many supporters came out to a benefit in his honor; Mike was present in spirit and by Skype! He has accepted the fact that he may not walk again; his motto is, "It is what it is." Koozies with these words were available. A huge Hawkeye fan, t-shirts in black and gold were worn by most in attendance with the words "Team Schroed" on the front and "Stay Strong" on the back. A meal and auction were held with many donated items including two hats signed by comedian Larry the Cable Guy, whom Mike met at Madonna; signed Hawkeye items and even a Purebred Great Pyrenees puppy.
