Margaret Ruth Schaefer was born on January 27, 1919, in Alta, the daughter of Elmer and Katherine (Harris) Schaefer. She grew up and attended school in the areas of Alta, Schaller and Early, graduating from Early High School in 1936. Following graduation, Margaret attended Beautician School in Sioux City.
On March 16, 1952, Margaret was united in marriage to Harry B. Hansen at the Early Methodist Church in Early, Iowa. She remained a faithful member of the Early Methodist Church, where she was baptized and confirmed as a child. During that time, Margaret was an active and devoted member of the UMW.
Over the years, Margaret worked as a beautician and a housewife. She enjoyed gardening, baking, and quilting, loved her flowers, and was an avid book reader. She was a collector of antiques, especially of Danish glassware.
Margaret treasured her family beyond words. She had fond memories of nieces and nephews visiting and spending time together, whether it was picking raspberries and making jellies and jams or a quiet cup of tea and cookies. Margaret was a member of the Nemaha Federated Women's Club, participating in Home and Family, Garden and Reading Departments, holding offices in each of those. Margaret was always game to work up a little mischief to keep life interesting. Her wonderful dry sense of humor always showed up when least expected.
Those left to cherish Margaret's memory include her husband of 60 years, Harry B. Hansen; sister-in-law, Lily (Oliver) Eckles; a host of nieces and nephews; extended family and friends
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Katherine Schaefer; sisters: Lorraine Rowe, Mary Louise Mason; Jane Ecternach, Vergil Bucknam; brothers: Raymond Schaefer, Dean Schaefer, Roger Schaefer; and infant brother, Wilbur Schaefer.
