Wednesday night saw the Tornadoes down Emmetsburg in a 7-1 final, behind Ethan Kenkel's stellar outing on the mound. The junior went the distance and struck out 14 in his first no-hitter. Kenkel gave up one earned run as he walked four.
Kenkel improved to 2-1 on the year with a 0.67 earned run average. He's struck out 33 in 21 innings of work.
Storm Lake picked up their deciding runs in the third as they plated four. They added two in the fourth and one in the sixth.
Jack Hartnett continues to have the hot bat for the Tornadoes as he was 1-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs in the win over the E-Hawks. Aaron Krier was 1-for-2 with two walks, two stolen bases, one run driven in and three runs scored. Trey O'Brien, Kenkel and Nic Seaman each drove in one run and scored one run.
On Thursday the Tornadoes hit the road and topped Western Christian in a 4-2 final, plating two runs in the sixth to claim the victory.
Krier was on the mound for that victory, pitching all seven innings, allowing one earned run on three hits. He walked four and struck out five. He now sits at 3-1 with a 3.89 earned run average.
Adam Ullerich was 1-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Storm Lake bats. Seaman was 2-for-3 and rove in a run, Kenkel was 1-for-4 and drove in one and scored two, and Krier was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Storm Lake is back in Lakes Conference action Monday night as they take on Spencer on the road.
