Mildred V. "Millie" Miller, 90, of Fort Dodge passed away in her home with her family by her side on Saturday June 9, after a courageous 6 1/2 month battle with cancer. Mass of the Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday June 15 at Corpus Christi Church. The visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Following the service Mildred's body will be cremated and the burial will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday at Corpus Christi Cemetery.
Mildred was born on December 22, 1921 to Algie and Audra (Ballah) Alexander. She grew up on the family farm in Webb, Iowa and she graduated from Garfield-Webb High School. She married Raymond Miller on December 31, 1946 at the Assumption church in Emmetsburg. The couple lived in Algona where Millie owned and operated Diagonal Grocery before they moved to Fort Dodge in 1959. She worked for Specks Super Value, Warehouse Market, Fanny Farmer and Wicker Jewelers. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, Catholic Daughters, VFW Auxiliary and was a volunteer for Trinity Regional Medical Center. She enjoyed baking, cake decorating, playing cards, playing the organ and was a fantastic ballroom dancer. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Millie is survived by her children Gary (Anita) Miller of Humboldt, Donna (Karl) Spencer of Las Vegas, Nev., Marilyn (Larry) Fawcett of Fort Dodge and Wayne (Jean) Miller of Oshkosh, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; special grandma to 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; her siblings Hazel Mills, Estel Alexander and Harold Alexander. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond; her son Neil and her siblings ruth Farlow, Leo Alexander and Russell Alexander.
