The teams played to a 2-2 tie after one, before Storm Lake grabbed a 5-4 edge after three. A four run fourth put them out front for good.
Alyssa Solem led the Tornado bats, finishing 3-for-4 with three doubles, three runs scored and four runs driven in. Brenna Richter was 1-for-3 with a homerun, two runs driven in and three scored. Emily Johnson scored two runs, Annabelle Eades scored one and drove in one, and Lily Freking and Maddison Gaffney each drove in a run.
Gaffney got the win on the mound as she allowed three earned runs on three hits. She walked 12 and struck out eight.
"What a great game for our girls," said Storm Lake head coach Mel Fisher. "Hopefully a huge confidence boost for the team. Madison Gaffney pitched a great game. Her first seven inning outing this year. Brenna Richter hit her first career homerun, with a sprained wrist. At game time we weren't even sure she would be able to play. Alyssa Solem had another great night at the plate. Every girl had a great play at some point tonight. Our defense was sharp and everyone put the ball in play hard with only one strike out."
The Tornadoes are back on the road Monday night at Spirit Lake.
