The Alta Kiwanis met Tuesday, June 5 at Wel-Life.
Featured were two guest speakers - Dave Turnquist, head softball coach and Dan Wendell, head baseball coach.
Coach Turnquist spoke first. Currently there are 29 girls out for softball. The girls' record is 5-6, with several losses to rated teams and one victory over a rated team. Coach Turnquist is assisted by K.C. Jensen and Lesa Turnquist.
Coach Wendell spoke about the boys' baseball team. The boys have evened out their record to 5-5 after a 1-5 start. They began the season with 47 players 11 of which are eighth graders. He stated that the boys have been working hard to improve. Coach Wendell is assisted by Jeremy Lambert.
The Nebraska/Iowa officertraining scheduled for June 9 has been postponed to a later date.
The Storm Lake Kiwanis Beavers are celebrating their 50th anniversary on June 19.
Kiwanis ticket-taking for baseball and softball games continues with three home games this week.
There have been 17 youngsters who have signed up for the boating/pizza outing on Aug. 8.
Thank you notes were received from Jill Buckendahl, one of the Kiwanis scholarship recipients and from Jeannie Henningsen, who thanked the Kiwanis for hosting the bicycle-safety program at school.
