There has been some requests that persons using irrigation systems in their yards be allowed to have two separate water meters so that water used on their lawns is not being charged with a sewer fee.
No one was present at Monday's meeting to discuss the issue with the council, but the council did talk briefly about the requests before tabling the issue until next month. It is hoped those concerned with this issue will come to the the July meeting (July 2).
It was pointed out by the council that they could allow second meters but the home owners would be responsible for the costs of the meter and installation - which is estimated to cost about $500.
There are a number of people that have irrigation systems. It was pointed out that if 1,000 gallons of extra water were used in a six-month period, as one example, the homeowners would only save approximately $17 in that entire time. With those meter costs, it would take several years before they would come out even. More discussion next month.
