Margaret Judith "Judy" Katter Nelson, age 95 of Albert City died Aug 22, 2011 at Pleasant View Home.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.

Margaret Judith Katter was born Oct. 9, 1915 in Garner, to Alvin and Fern (Peck) Katter. She received her education in the Garner public school system and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she graduated with a teaching certificate. Judy was on her way to a teaching interview at a country school west of Albert City, when she and her mother stopped in Albert City. She was interviewed by the Albert City school system and offered a teaching job there in 1935. In 1937, she married Earl B. Nelson at the end of the school year. Judy and Earl lived in Albert City until 1977, when they retired to Green Valley, Arizona. Then, Judy moved back to Albert City in 1984 after Earl died in 1980.

Judy enjoyed her Church activities including, Choir, Bible Studies, and circle meetings, she also enjoyed writing in her daily journal, singing all music and birding and hiking. Her backyard squirrel's antics were always good amusement while she lived at her house.

Judy is lovingly remembered by her family which includes her daughters: Sigrid and husband Phil Compton, of Katy, Texas, Judith and husband Fred Dippold of Portland, Ore. Grandchildren, Douglas and wife Caryl Compton, Pauline and husband Robert Hayden, and Curtis and wife Cindy Compton. Great grandchildren, Ciara Compton, Hailey Chadwick, Jeremy Chadwick, Megan, Nicole and Olivia Hayden and Mallory, Philip and Patrick Compton, all who are living in Texas. She has numerous nieces and nephews and many loving friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Judy's honor may be given to the Albert City Historical Society or Our Saviors Lutheran Church.
