Tuesday, June 5, 2012

The 2012 Storm Lake Star Spangled Spectacular entertainment lineup will include a juggling act that is new to the local Fourth of July event. What's Up Juggling will be performing Wednesday, July 4, 2-3 p.m. at Chautauqua Park.

Dean Franzen and Doug Sayers are a 2-person juggling act from central Iowa - "What's Up Juggling." The two perform at fairs, festivals, schools, libraries and various special events. Their act includes unicycling, comedy, audience participation and world-class juggling.

Franzen is from Cedar Falls and learned to juggle in San Francisco during the 1980's. He has been performing for over 25 years and is considered Iowa's premiere comedic juggler. He also is a math instructor at the University of Northern Iowa.

Sayers hails from Cedar Rapids and is recognized as one of the top jugglers in the world. In 2009, he won first place in the International Juggler's Association Annual competition. In 2010 he won first place in the World Juggling Federation's overall competition. Sayers also owns several world records in solo and team juggling.

What's Up Juggling and all entertainment during the Star Spangled Spectacular is free and open to the public. The event is sponsored through private donations to the Star Spangled Spectacular fund drive.
