STORM LAKE - After a pair of rainouts scratched contests against Sioux Central and Spencer, the Storm Lake girls made their debut at home Friday with LeMars.

The Tornadoes came out on the short end of a lopsided, three-inning contest with the Bulldogs that ended at 18-0.

8th-grader Maddison Gaffney took the loss on the mound as she gave up eight earned runs on 12 hits with 12 walks. She struck out one.

Classmate Alicia Krier came up with the Tornadoes lone hit of the night. Haylee Lindquist added a walk.

"We came out the first inning and had three errors and gave up 10 unearned runs," said Storm Lake head coach Mel Fisher. "That took the wind out of our sails and we could never recover. LeMars has a very good pitcher that kept us off the bases. Alicia Krier had a great hit. Madison Gaffney pitched a nice game for her first varsity game ever."

LeMars plated 11 in the first, six in the scond and one in the third. Molly Renken struck out five and walked one for the Bulldogs (4-3). Emily Ellefson drove in four runs, and Madison Heidebrink and Emily Pick drove in three apiece.

The Toradoes open tournament play at home today with Denison-Schleswig.
