DES MOINES - The 2012 Iowa High School State Track Meet drew to a close Saturday, and it was Sioux Central that turned in the strongest finale out of the area schools as they placed a pair of hurdle events atop the medal stand in the Class 2A boy's field.

Individually, Ethan Lindquist clocked in a 15.28 to place sixth in the 110 meter hurdles. First went to CMB, Baxter's Josh Zeiser at 14.58. Okoboji's Zach Jones was second at 15.01.

Lindquist also led off the Rebels' shuttle hurdle relay team with Brad Ripke, Tanner Perrigo and Nick Wittmaack as they placed third in the Class 2A finals with a time of 58.63. Beckman, Dyersville took first at 58.47 and Okoboji second at 58.59 in a tight, three-way contest for first.

Also in action Saturday, Rachel Hamilton took 15th for the Sioux Central girls in the open 800 at 2:27.24. First went to Jesup's Lindsey Kite at 2:15.96. the Rebel sprint medley of Shena Geisinger, Paige Meisinger, Taylor Fahnlander and Callie Buske was 16th at 1:55.11, and the 4x400 of Morgan Walker, Nicole Hamilton, Chandler Johannsen and Rachel Hamilton was 17th on Friday night at 4:15.16.

Miranda Dirks earned a 17th place showing in the Class 1A girls discus for Newell-Fonda as she three 100'4" Friday. Earlham's Amy Wright won the event at 133'8".

Also in action Saturday was Laurens-Marathon's Alex Runneberg as he was 15th in the 800 at 2:03.97. Teammate Justin DaSilva was 22nd in the 100 prelims Thursday at 12.33.

Storm Lake's meet was highlighted by Ethan Kenkel's runner-up finish in the Class 3A discus as he breifly held the State Meet record with his toss of 180-feet. "What a great accomplishment for Ethan," said Storm Lake girl's head coach John Brostad. "A nice birthday gift for him, holding the State Meet record briefly and breaking the Storm Lake high school record as well."

The Storm Lake girls also had some impressive showings in their two events as Megan Miller was fifth in the long jump at 16' 3.5". Miller was also part of the 4x100 team that placed 9th at 51.35 alongside, Mary Jo Besch, Anna Wulfekuhler and Brennar Richter.

"The 4 x 100 has been amazing the last three meets of the season," said Brostad. "They ran a 52.96 at the SL Invitational just three weeks ago. Then they had a 52.36 at the Lakes Conference Meet to be Lakes Champions, then a 51.74 at District for third where they were seeded fifth. Then they take another .4 sec. off with a 51.35 at State which was 9th out of the 24 teams. Wow! They were only .08 from 7th and .03 from 8th and making finals. It's eyelashes at State. What a great job of improving and working on steps and baton passes. I was so proud of them. To come from where they started at the start of the season running mid 54's and mid 53's to this. Megan Miller did a great job in her first ever trip to State as she placed fifth in the long jump. What a great job by a girl who we asked to try the long jump a year ago and waited until the second meet to try it. Are we glad she did."
