Kelsey Brake, Rembrandt, has been named the winner of the 2012 Shirley Sorbe Scholarship award. The daughter of Loren and Crystal Brake, Kelsey is a 2012 graduate of Alta-Aurelia High School. Kelsey's future plans are to attend the University of Northern Iowa to pursue an accounting major as she works towards her CPA degree.

Kelsey is a member of the National Honor Society and has participated in volleyball, softball, large group speech and individual speech, Community Leaders of Tomorrow, Just Eliminate Lies (JEL), track, dance and basketball. Kelsey is also a long-time 4-H member and has served on the 4-H County Youth Council and is an active member of her church and community.

Congratulations to Kelsey on receiving this scholarship which was established in memory of Shirley Sorbe, an employee of Buena Vista County Farm Bureau for 39 years, as a lasting tribute to an outstanding individual. Sorbe was a long-time resident of the Rembrandt and Alta communities. The scholarship given each year is generated from the interest earned on a savings account established from scholarship donations given in her memory. This year marks the 16th year that the Sorbe Scholarship has been awarded to a student in Buena Vista County.
