Alta Kiwanis Notes

Friday, May 18, 2012

The Alta Kiwanis met Tuesday, May 15 at Wel-Life.

Marge Neulieb was the speaker. She spoke on behalf of the Buena Vista Historical Society and traced its beginning from the Harker House in Storm Lake.

Harker House was built by the Harker family from Jefferson. The house was finished by Marie Harker Marshall. The next home for the society was the college. In 1972 when Storm Lake built a new library the BVH Society moved into the old Carnegie Library building. The first entry at the new location was the contents of the Halvorson House. Later the society

moved to the Ford Building which had been owned by Harry Melander.

Pop can sorting is set for June 1. Baseball-softball ticket taking begins with the first home game on May 21.

Awards night is May 17. Three top students will receive joint Kiwanis scholarships from the Alta and Aurelia clubs.

Still needed is someone to fill the president-elect position.

Motion was made and seconded to contribute $250 for one student to attend Hoby Leadership Camp.
