The Tornadoes carded a collective 321 to snap Spencer's recent run of dominance as the Tigers were one stroke off the pace at 322. Spirit Lake was in the thick of the race with a 324, Cherokee had a 335, Emmetsburg 344, Western Christian 345 and LeMars 348.
Storm Lake was again led by their 1-2 duo of John Bral and Ryan Gutz as the pair turned in the two lowest rounds of the day with Bral turning in a 74 and Gutz a 76. Both received All-Conference honors for finishing in the top eight.
The Tornadoes also tied for the regular season conference championship with Spirit Lake with a record of 6-1.
"This has been a very good year for Storm Lake boys golf," said head coach Dave Skibsted. "They brought home two conference championships this year. Great job.
Also garnering All-Lakes honors was Cherokee's Adam Pitts with a 76, Estherville-Lincoln Central's Logan Spoo with a 77, Spencer's John Labernik and Lee Beneke with a 79 and 80, respectively, and Spirit Lake's Corey Potter and Zach Skopec with 80's.
Charlie Robbins tied for 10th overall as he was Storm Lake's next top finisher with a round of 81. Jack Hartnett finished 31st with an 89, Zach Brashears was 42nd with a 95 and Grant Kofmehl 48th with a 110.
Bral opened the day with a double bogey but recovered nicely with three straight pars, before turning in an eagle on the par-4 #5. Back-to-back double bogeys followed before a birdie and par closed out the front nine. Bral netted three birdies and four pars on the back nine.
Gutz had three pars and two birdies on the front and six pars and a birdie on the back nine.
The 2nd-ranked Tornadoes will now make a run at the State Tournament Friday as they head to Spencer for the Sectional meet. Also in attendance will be the Tigers, Algona, Estherville-Lincoln Central, Humboldt, LeMars, #7 MOC-Floyd Valley, and #3 Spirit Lake. Teams and individuals advancing from the Spencer and Atlantic sectionals will play at the district meet in Carroll on Friday, May 18th.
The Storm Lake girls were also in action at Okoboji Monday as they finished fifth in their conference championships.
Spirit Lake won with a 391, followed by Spencer at 404, Emmetsburg at 410, LeMars at 422, Estherville-Lincoln Central at 436, Storm Lake at 440, and Western Christian at 450.
Emmetsburg's Taylor Knight was meet medalist at 92. Spirit Lake's Whitney Berkland and Amanda Williams followed with 93's.
The Tornadoes were led by Erika James' 9th place finish with a 103. Rylee James followed with a 107, Grace Dierenfield had a 110 and Annabelle Eades a 120.
The Storm Lake girl's District meet will be held at Lake Creek on Monday with Atlantic, Bishop Heelan, Carroll, Harlan, LeMars, MOC-Floyd Valley and Sergeant Bluff-Luton.
